Many influences from childhood readings have been replaced by an area inhabited by such giants as Spike Milligan, Ivor Cutler and John Cooper Clarke. Not to mention John Lennon, The Hollies, Louden Wainwright III, Cole Porter, Laurie Anderson, etc. - I’ll dip into almost anything, I’m not proud.
Being published in an anthology in the ‘80s, encouraged me to work harder at the craft and I’ve since had many poems and other writings published on websites, in more anthologies, one or two magazines and newsletters, including Mensa’s “Lyriq”, Brendan Hawthorne’s “Read the Music” and the ubiquitous “Purple Patch”, not forgetting Radio Geronimo’s website.
Rubbed shoulders with fellow lecturer and Birmingham’s Poet Laureate of the millennium year, Roshan Doug, with whom I helped set up a “Poetry Place” in our college library, and to start performing poems in public.
A member of WriteLink, London-based “The Poetry Society”, and, since 2002, Poetry Wednesbury, I have enjoyed the company of local luminaries such as Geoff Stevens, Brendan Hawthorne, Di Neoh, Keith Melbourne, Bob Mee, John Stevenson and of course the inimitable Zaza Murray, joining in with the regular readings and the irregular ones.
Currently a Driving Instructor and also continuing a small input to Sandwell Adult Education.
