Poetry Wednesbury
About Brendan

Brendan Hawthorne began his writing career by composing songs and performing with rock bands. He then started to draw on the industrial heritage of his native Black Country, producing both narrative and dialect poems inspired by factory tales and colourful local characters, being keen to record the style and the sound of the language before it disappears or changes beyond recognition. Working in partnership with West Bromwich poet Geoff Stevens, he has cut a CD of humorous Black Country verse which has been performed on tour - with interpreters where necessary!

Brendan has self-published several collections of his more serious poetry and has appeared in magazines both at home and abroad, performing regularly at venues around the Midlands, including Birmingham's prestigious ArtsFest in September.
As co-founder of Poetry Wednesbury - again with Geoff Stevens - he has made several CD's and a video with media students from Josiah Mason College, Birmingham.

He produces a twice-yearly magazine called Read The Music, featuring poetry and artwork inspired by music and musicians of any age or genre. Submissions are welcome via email at:  brendanhawthorne@poetrywednesbury.co.uk

Subscriptions or copies can also be acquired by this method at £5 for two issues or £3 each.
