The Small Press Poetry Conventions started in Britain with one held in Liverpool in 1985, and ran annually until 1996. I attended the first and those in Hastings, Stamford, Newcastle (twice), Northop, Exeter and Huddersfield.
After 1997/8 events failed to take place, I revived the event at The Barlow Theatre, Langley, Near Birmingham in 1999, followed by similar Friday-evening-until-Sunday-lunchtime festivals in 2001-2. The Back Room Poets of Oxford hosted in 2003 and did a splendid job. They suggested I follow up for 2004 and they organise the event again in 2005.
A weekend for poets and poetry lovers giving everyone a chance to read, meet other poets, attend workshops and discussions and browse books and magazines, all in a friendly atmosphere, and all for one payment of £5, is something to savour and support.
