    Press Release: Poetry Wednesbury

Local poets Brendan Hawthorne and Geoff Stevens dreamed of providing
a forum for writers and performers and created Poetry Wednesbury,
which is now in its seventh year.

Armed with a modest grant to purchase recording equipment, they are
planning to make further inroads within the community by developing the
positive promotion of poetry as an art form.

They are planning to offer the opportunity for writers to further develop
and hone their performance skills by making a series of videos and CD’s.
It is also aiming to produce an annual ‘best of’’ CD, containing
highlights of live shows.

DVDs of the locale are also planned, requiring poetry for overlaying across
the images. They are also looking to work towards producing exhibitions of
work as well as touring projects and performances to wider audiences in the
area.

A thrice-yearly newsletter containing news, reviews and poetry will be
produced in printable download format, hard copy or audio for those with
sight impairment, all available on request.

Poetry Wednesbury holds its monthly meetings in Wednesbury Library
on Walsall Street on the last Wednesday of the month (except December)
at 7.30 pm with its usual open mic philosophy. The evenings are open to
everyone, performer or audience member, and entrance is free of charge.

Anyone interested in joining Brendan and Geoff and working on these
projects should contact them for an informal discussion and further details,
or simply come along to the next meeting and experience Poetry Wednesbury for
themselves.NETWORK WITH US ON YOUR POETRY GIGS!
Purple Patch, Poetry Wednesbury, and Unleaded Petrels organisations have staged and taken  part in a considerable number of stage  presentations, conventions, and  open-mike poetry events between them over the years 1970 to date, and would like to co-operate, exchange visit, cross-publicise, with other like bodies in the u.k.
Give us an e-mail, a letter, or a call, and sound us out. We have two regular monthly venues and have friendly associations with five  others in the West Midlands - why not a few more help-each-other link-ups and co-operations?
